Midsummer Fire Festival 2009 (June 21 – July 5)

{ No Comment }

Midsummer is here! World of Warcraft’s Midsummer Fire Festival begins at 4:00am server time on June 21 and runs til 4:00am server time on July 5, and this year’s festivities are better than ever! Acquire flaming threads, a sweet tabard, a fiery companion and more! Complete achievements to earn a new player title – Horde players can obtain the title ‘Flame Keeper’ and Alliance players can obtain the title ‘Flame Warden.’ There are bonfires located in each major capital city, which are surrounded by questgivers, Midsummer Celebrants, and a Midsummer Supplier or Midsummer Merchant who sells items in exchange for (Item #23247). There are ‘Commoner’ NPCs of all races (including goblins!) that can be found lingering around the major cities and will give you a short (though unnecessary) quest to turn in at one of the main bonfire camps. The main Midsummer Festival bonfire camps can be found at the following locations: Alliance: Darnassus, Ironforge, Stormwind or The Exodar Horde: Orgrimmar, Silvermoon City, Thunder Bluff or Undercity Table of Contents Quests Festival Camp Quests Torch Quests Twilight Hammer Quests Bonfire Quests Torches, Torches, Torches Twilight Whatzits? A-who-ne? Festival Bonfires Stealing The Festival Fire Quick F.A.Q. (Including festival items!) Achievements Quests Festival Camp Quests (Quest #11971) or (Quest #11970) Start: “Commoner” NPCs in major cities. End: Festival Talespinner or Festival Loremaster These quests are simply “breadcrumb” quests given by flavor NPCs in major cities to alert you to the Festival’s start and to lead you to the Festival Fire camps. Awards a single (Item #23247), and is turned in at the Festival Talespinner or Festival Loremaster, who are found in their appropriate faction major cities (or Shattrath). This quest is not required, and the NPC will give the next quest regardless of its completion. (Quest #11966) or (Quest #11964) Start: Festival Talespinner or Festival Loremaster End: Summer Scorchling A quick and easy quest, simply talk to the NPC located near a Festival Fire (locations here) in any major city to accept the quest and receive the (Item #35725), then walk outside the city and turn it in at a Summer Scorchling located near a festival fire. You can complete this quest at basically any of your faction’s fires, it doesn’t matter which one. The quest is ridiculously easy and awards only single (Item #23247), but the short event following completion is quite a treat. Torch Quests The torch quests are detailed below. The first 2 parts of this quest chain are merely breadcrumb quests, intended to lead you to the next questgivers and do not need to be completed in order to continue the chain. This means you can walk right into Slave Pens and start the Ahune summoning chain without having done any previous quest. (Quest #11955) (Quest #11696) (Quest #11691) – Repeatable Daily Quest, Awards (+ at level 70) (Quest #11972) Start: (Item #35723), which drops from Ahune on player’s first kill. End: Luma Skymother Upon successfully killing Ahune for the first time, he will drop a quest item that you return to Luma Skymother. This quest cannot be completed more than once (this year) – which means you will have to choose one tabard per character! You will be rewarded with (Item #23247) x20 and your choice of either the (Item #35279) or the(Item #35280) Bonfire Quests The festival bonfire quests are detailed below. Honor the Flame! – Awards (Item #23247) x5 Start & End: Flame Keeper located near bonfires. This quest can only be completed once per location at Festival fires belonging to your faction. Desecrate this Fire! – Awards (Item #23247) x10 Start: Opposing faction bonfires. End: Festival Talespinner or Festival Loremaster This quest can only be completed once per location at Festival fires belonging to the opposite faction. Alliance Stealing Orgrimmar’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Thunder Bluff’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing the Undercity’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Silvermoon’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Horde Stealing Stormwind’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Ironforge’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Darnassus’ Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing the Exodar’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Completing these quests under level 70 will award experience based on your level. Once all four of the opposing faction’s flames have been turned in, the following quest becomes available from the completion NPC. (Quest #9339) or (Quest #9365) – Awards (Item #23323) Torches, Torches, Torches! The Master Fire Eater or Master Flame Eater located near the bonfire offers a two-part quest chain which unlocks two daily quests that can be completed for gold as well as (Item #23247). The first quest is Torch Tossing (Alliance | Horde), for which you are given (Item #34862) that you must aim and throw at a series of braziers found nearby the questgiver. A brazier is only considered an active target when it has an arrow above it that looks like a Hunter’s Mark; non-marked braziers will not count towards the quest objective. When you use the torch you will be given a small targeting circle that you must place over an active brazier and click to toss. You are given x seconds to hit 8 targets, and if you are successful you are awarded with (Item #23247) x5 and gold (and experience, if you are lower than 70). Once you have completed the first quest, the NPC will then offer you Torch Catching (Alliance | Horde). For this quest, you must light the (Item #34833) at the bonfire, which will then toss a flaming torch into the air. You have to follow the shadow of the torch, and then wait where it will land to “catch” it. If you miss, but are near where it lands you will suffer fire damage which can add up pretty quick if you’re not yet used to the quest. When you catch the torch, there will be a very short delay before you will automatically toss it back up into the air, only this time it will travel a much shorter distance. You must “catch” the torch four times in a row to complete the quest, and you will be rewarded with (Item #34599) x5 and (Item #23247) x5. Once you have completed both of these quests, repeatable daily quest version of both quests become available, aptly titled More Torch Tossing (Alliance | Horde) and More Torch Catching (Alliance | Horde). Completing each quest, daily, will award (Item #23247) x5 however they are a bit more challenging (this time requiring hitting 20 braziers, and catching 10 torches.) Twilight Whatzits? A-who-ne? At each major city capital camp there is an Earthen Ring Elder representing the faction neutral Earthen Ring, an organization of shaman similar to the druids’ Cenarion Circle. The Elder will offers a short quest chain starting with (Quest #11886), for which you must travel to the Zoram Strand of Ashenvale and slay level 20+ Twilight Firesworn until the (Item #35277) drops. Once you receive it, use the (Item #35828) to summon an Earthen Ring Guide to complete the quest. The Guide will then give you the next part of the quest, (Quest #11891) for which you are given an orb that changes you into a Crawler for three minutes. In your new disguise, you must travel northwest of the entrance of Blackfathom Deeps – you will know you’re going the right way if you periodically find blue-flamed torches, and eventually a small encampment on the shore. While disguised, witness the exchange between the naga and the Ice Caller Briatha until the quest completes. When it is finished, you can move out of range of the mobs and cancel the disguise, and summon the Earthen Ring Guide once again. This time, upon relaying the information, the guide will give you the quest (Quest #12012), requesting that you return to an Earthen Ring Elder and report your findings. Once you have returned to an Earthen Ring Elder, the quest chain will complete and either one or two quests will become available, depending on your level. For characters level 22 and above, a repeatable daily quest will open up. The quest is called Striking Back, and depending on your level range you will be given a single objective at a location in Azeroth or Outland. (Quest #11917) (Level 22) – This quest has you summon and kill a Frostwave Lieutenant from an Ice Stone located at the Zoram Strand, Ashenvale. Awards (Item #23247) x10 and 3 silver 50 copper. (Quest #11947) (Level 32) – This quest has you summon and kill a Hailstone Lieutenant from an Ice Stone at Ethel Rethor, Desolace. Awards (Item #23247) x10 and 8 silver. (Quest #11948) (Level 43) – This quest has you summon and kill a Chillwind Lieutenant from an Ice Stone in Stranglethorn Vale. Desolace. Awards (Item #23247) x10 and 15 silver. (Quest #11952) (Level 51) – This quest has you summon and kill a Frigid Lieutenant from an Ice Stone in the northwestern part of Searing Gorge. Awards (Item #23247) x10 and 19 silver. (Quest #11953) (Level 60) – This quest has you summon and kill a Glacial Lieutenant from an Ice Stone at Twilight’s Run, Silithus. Awards (Item #23247) x10 and 23 silver. (Quest #11954) (Level 67) – This quest has you summon and kill a Glacial Templar from an Ice Stone near the Dark Portal, in Hellfire Peninsula. Awards (Item #23247) x10 and 94 silver. If you character is level 65 or higher, the Earthen Ring Elder will offer a second quest, (Quest #11955). This quest asks you to travel to the Slave Pens in Zangarmarsh in search of Numa Cloudsister, who is located right inside the instance. This quest, and it’s follow-up, are not actually required to summon Ahune! You can summon Ahune by going straight to Luma Skymother, without having completed any other Midsummer quest. When you turn in that quest she will give the quest Ahune is Here! and ask that you find Luma Skymother, who is located a bit further into the instance. Finally, Luma will give you the quest (Quest #11691), granting you an (Item #34953) allowing you to (you guessed it) summon Ahune . Use the totem at the Ice Stone located just beyond Luma and defeat Ahune to complete the quest, which awards and experience (or an additional at level 70). The Ice Stone is located before the first boss of the instance, so essentially you could repeatedly farm the encounter provided you have enough players to keep summoning, without ever having to kill a normal boss. If this is your first time killing Ahune, he will drop an item called (Item #35723) which starts the quest (Quest #11972). Accept the quest and bring the shard to Luma Skymother, and she will reward you with (Item #23247) x20 and your choice of a unique tabard: the (Item #35279) or the (Item #35280). You can only complete this quest once, so you will not be able to receive both tabards on the same character (well, not until next year at least)! The quest to summon Ahune can only be completed once per day, per person. Which means that if you have a five person party, each person can complete the quest to summon him one time (provided you didn’t actually save yourself to the Heroic) and you could potentially do five runs, one after another. Even if you have killed the boss, as long as at least one person in your party is able to take the quest and summon him you’ll have yet another chance at some of the phat loot he drops! Bonfires There are a total of 78 festival bonfires spread throughout Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, Outland and Northrend – 40 for the Alliance and 38 for the Horde. If you visit one of your faction’s bonfires, you can speak to the nearby Flame Keeper to Honor the Flame, which will reward you with (Item #23247) x5 and at level 80. If you visit one of the opposing faction’s bonfires, you can right-click to Desecrate this Fire!, which will extinguish the flame and will reward (Item #23247) x10 and at level 80. The bonfires in the major cities do NOT pertain to these quests. Not only does visiting these fires grant a ton of money for level 80 characters, it is also extremely good experience for pre-80 characters (the experience gain will typically scale according to your level)! The Argent Stand [43,71] In addition to awarding easy gold and (Item #23247), there are a number of player buffs that are available from the various festival fire locations. At each bonfire you will find a Ribbon Pole, which creates a colorful streamer to your hand and causes your character to twirl very quickly (such as the effect of (Spell #1680)). In addition to being rather hilarious, you will gain the (Spell #29175) buff which increases experience gain by 10% for 3 minutes, stacking 3 more minutes on for every 3 seconds you remain twirling at the Ribbon Pole. The buff stacks up to a one hour duration (after 1 minute of twirling) and can stack with rested experience, so get it while it’s hot! If a player throws a (Item #23247) into a festival fire, all surrounding players will gain the (Spell #46352) buff, granting +3% physical/spell critical strike and reflecting Fire damage to attackers for 1 hour, and scales with your player level. As if that wasn’t enough, if you happen to be at a festival flame that has been extinguished and no longer burns, tossing a (Item #23247) into it will grant a zone-wide buff (Spell #45444) which gives your faction’s players a 30% chance to inflict 10 Fire damage on any melee, ranged, or spell attack, increasing by 10 Fire damage per level. Stealing The Festival Flames If you couldn’t get enough of the bonfires spread throughout the world and like a challenge, players can dare to venture into the opposing faction’s capital cities in an attempt to steal their flames! How exactly you “steal” fire is beyond me, but we can shove pack animals, an entire arsenal of fine weaponry, and gallons upon gallons of potions in 5 little bags on our person – so who am I to question the game’s logic? Anyway, you can sneak into the enemy territory and attempt to snatch their flame, which is similar to extinguishing an enemy bonfire, only it does automatically put the item into your inventory, so make sure you have bagspace! This item will start a quest, which you really do not need to accept until you are ready to turn it in (you should probably be more focused on getting out of there, anyway). Alliance can turn these quests in to the Festival Loremaster, and Horde to the Festival Talespinner, located near any main city’s bonfire (as well as in Shattrath). There are four flames for each faction, one for every major capital city. They are not heavily guarded, and Festival-related NPCs will not attack you, but you should be wary of any surrounding guards and/or enemy players. The actual “looting” of the flame does not entirely break on damage and will only take a second. It is possible to make these treks rather painless and easy, though as a Horde player every city I ventured into I managed to aggro a plethora of guards that would spawn endlessly out of thin air. Be careful. Alliance Stealing Orgrimmar’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Thunder Bluff’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing the Undercity’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Silvermoon’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Horde Stealing Stormwind’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Ironforge’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing Darnassus’ Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable Stealing the Exodar’s Flame – Awards (Item #23247) x25, choice of consumable For every flame you retrieve and turn in, you will be awarded (Item #23247) x25 and your choice from a variety of festival treats (which, sadly, have a limited duration). If you manage to steal all four of your opposing faction’s flames, the quest A Thief’s Reward (Alliance | Horde) becomes available to complete and the Loremaster / Talespinner will award you the (Item #23323). Quick F.A.Q. 1. How many daily quests are there? Technically? Three or four, depending on your level. There is the torch tossing quest, the torch catching quest, your level range’s ‘Striking Back’ quest, and the quest to summon Ahune (if you are high enough). 2. What do I do with all of these (Item #23247)? Use them to buy cool stuff! There is a Midsummer Merchant located near each major city’s festival fire that sells a variety of nifty items in exchange for (Item #23247), including the following permanent items: (Item #23324) – 100 (Item #23247) (Item #34685) – 100 (Item #23247) (Item #34683) – 200 (Item #23247) (Item #34686) – 350 (Item #23247) (Item #23083) – 350 (Item #23247) She also sells the following, limited duration consumables: (Item #23435) – 5 (Item #23247) (Item #23327) – 5 (Item #23247) (Item #23326) – 5 (Item #23247) (Item #23211) – 5 (Item #23247) (Item #23246) – 2 (Item #23247) (Item #34684) – 2 (Item #23247) And finally, he following bag of ingredients: (Item #23215) – 5 (Item #23247) 3. Yeah, okay, cute – shoes that make my feet catch fire. Bring on the epics! While not actually a question, it’s definitely worth reiterating for some of the higher level players out there that Ahune is out there! He drops a small assortment of level 70 epic-quality loot, including but not limited to a cool enchant ((Item #35498)), one of the coolest looking weapons in the game, and a rad non-combat pet. Remember, he can only be summoned once per day per character – so good luck! Achievements The Flame Keeper or The Flame Warden This achievement can be found in the main World Events achievement category and is awarded upon completion of every one of the Midsummer Fire Festival achievements. This achievement awards the player title ‘Flame Keeper’ or ‘Flame Warden’ (depending on faction) and is a requirement towards completion of What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been (Alliance version) which rewards the beautiful (Spell #60024). Burning Hot Pole Dance To earn this achievement you have to dance at a Ribbon Pole located near festival Bonfires for a full minute while wearing the full Midsummer Reveler set. You will need a total of 400 (Item #23247) to purchase all three pieces – 100 for the (Item #23324), 100 for (Item #34685) and 200 for (Item #34683). Please note that the (Item #23323) obtained from the Thief’s Reward quests is not required for this achievement. Simply right click a ribbon pole to grab a ribbon and start spinning! Desecration of the Alliance or Desecration of the Horde This achievement is awarded upon completion of all three of the Extinguishing meta achievements available to each faction. Extinguishing Kalimdor or Extinguishing Kalimdor For this achievement, you must extinguish all of the opposing faction’s flames found on the continent of Kailmdor. A full list of these bonfires can be found above. Extinguishing Eastern Kingdoms or Extinguishing Eastern Kingdoms For this achievement, you must extinguish all of the opposing faction’s flames found on the continent of Eastern Kingdoms. A full list of these bonfires can be found above. Extinguishing Outland or Extinguishing Outland For this achievement, you must extinguish all of the opposing faction’s flames found on the continent of Outland. A full list of these bonfires can be found above. The Fires of Azeroth or The Fires of Azeroth This achievement is awarded upon completion of all three of the Flame Keeper / Flame Warden meta achievements available to each faction. Flame Keeper of Eastern Kingdoms or Flame Warden of Eastern Kingdoms For this achievement, you must honor all of your faction’s flames found on the continent of Eastern Kingdoms. A full list of these bonfires can be found above. Flame Keeper of Kalimdor or Flame Warden of Kalimdor For this achievement, you must honor all of your faction’s flames found on the continent of Kalimdor. A full list of these bonfires can be found above. Flame Keeper of Outland or Flame Warden of Outland For this achievement, you must honor all of your faction’s flames found on the continent of Outland. A full list of these bonfires can be found above. King of the Fire Festival To obtain this achievement you must complete the quest (Quest #9339) (Alliance), which requires you to sneak into the four major cities of your opposing faction to ‘steal’ their festival flames. Details on stealing the flames can be found above. Ice the Frost Lord To obtain this achievement you must defeat Lord Ahune who can be summoned inside the Slave Pens of Coilfang Reservoir, in Zangarmarsh. Players who participated in last year’s Midsummer festivities may find that they have already earned this achievement, among others. Details on summoning Lord Ahune can be found above. Torch Juggler For this acheivement, purchase at least 10 (Item #34599) from a Midsummer vendor, and juggle them 40 times within 15 seconds while in Dalaran. Hotkey the torches and click the ground below your character to juggle them in place, though be careful as Dalaran’s lag may be a bit unforgiving!Article Source: www.wowhead.com.
